What are your favorite classic children’s literature books?

I’m taking a class in the art of children’s illustration and another class in multicultural literature for children. I’ve taken 4 previous classes in children’s literature also. Between them all I’ve come to learn a lot about the genre and find my bookshelf filled with     various children’s literature. I love them all, but find certain ones my favorites. Three are: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Against the Storm, by Gaye Hicyilmaz, The Thief Lord by Cornelia Gunke.

Miss You, Pat by Sharon Watts

missyoupat.jpgThis is one of the most recent books I wrote a review for. It is published and live at www.midwestbookreview.com . You can find it under “Reviewer’s Bookwatch” at the far left. Then click on the February 2008 issue. Miss You, Pat is the first review there.

“Miss You, Pat” compelled me to seek out an interview with the author, Sharon Watts. She has agreed and now we’re looking for a publisher. My first attempt is with the prestigious journal, “The Sun.”

If anyone is interested, Miss You, Pat is available at Amazon. The proceeds go to Bent On Learning, a not-for-profit program that brings yoga and meditation to NYC public schools and youth centers. For more information go to www.bentonlearning.org. The book was published on Pat’s birthday, 11/9, and to be included among the archives at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.

From my review:

“Some events should never be forgotten. Some people should not be either. What love has a man? One that is selfless. He paves a path to excellence.

911 - Tape released August 16, 2006

I’m on the 35th floor, okay, okay? Just relay to the command post we’re trying to get up. There’s numerous civilians at all stairwells, numerous burn injuries are coming down. I’m trying to send them down first. Apparently it’s above the 75th floor. I don’t know if they got there yet. Okay, Three Truck and we are still heading up. Okay? Thank you. —Captain Patrick J. Brown

Just when we have begun to lose our faith in humankind, a larger than life hero steps up for the fight. Miss You, Pat is a haunting book that promises to restore your confidence. Pat’s nobility demonstrates the best of our humanity. In an era where we seek for ourselves, Pat distinguished himself by giving the greatest measure of love one can give. What love has a man? Sacrifice of himself for another. A highly recommended read.”

hidposmsq.jpg How does one slow down the hands of time? There are a few ways. My way is to run. I run also because something in me feels free, wild, and alive when I do. Though I cannot run outdoors as often as I’d like these days, due to the terrible weather,( I’m not a cold weather fan) I do run indoors on a treadmill. After the weather swings back around, I’ll again run passionately. I don’t like running on the treadmill. Most outdoor runners don’t.

Does anyone else run?

What do you do physically for your health and to feel alive?
